Through the implementation of this project, we aimed to inspire both staff and young people, giving them renewed energy and enthusiasm. We wanted young participants to experience that their voices matter, helping them gain confidence and understand the importance of using their voice. By showing them the meaningful aspects of active participation in communities, we hoped to empower them. Additionally, we wanted them to recognize the essential and universal experience of being young, and that we share more similarities than differences. Furthermore, we aimed to strengthen our organizational capabilities to support youth participation and create engaging environments where young people are motivated to get involved.
Our motivation for this project came from a desire to strengthen our organizational capacity to support young people in Furesø and Flanders, improve how we create opportunities for youth participation in our organization and local community, and help participants gain a better understanding of democratic processes and their importance for society. We also wanted young people to meet across borders and discover the many similarities that exist between people from different countries, religions, and ethnicities, and to experience that we are more alike than we are different.
