Through the international youth work experience that we have carried out along the years, we have noticed that there are a number of countries where youth work is not recognized as a profession. Not all youth leaders have the opportunity to go to university (like it is the case for example in Estonia or in Malta) and study in the field of social sciences where they are able to learn more about youth work. For that reason, in the first year of having the accreditation, we wanted to focus more on the foundations of youth work and non-formal education, sociology and psychology of youth. Because of the lack of education seen in international youth work a number of youth workers are not always that well prepared when it comes to working with youth with different needs and realities. Youth leaders and youth workers who have not received a lot of training lack certain tools and methodologies that would benefit them during their work with youth. Thus it was really important for us to train youth workers and youth leaders in new methodologies like outdoor, art, dance and drama methodologies, also gamification and game based learning and others. We believe in stability and long term feasibility, for that the youth workers also need to learn how to take care of themselves as they cannot give from what they do not have. For that reason we also showed the youth workers how to take care of their inner self so that in return they know how to show up better for the young person. Lastly, trained the youth workers also on how to do coaching and mentoring as it is something that is really needed in youth work, but unfortunately sometimes its importance is played down. The first year objective in our accreditation is: Objective 1: Train youth workers to become more professional in their work by introducing them to the history of youth (work), its importance and different styles in the form of non-formal education, so in return they work more effectively, with greater quality and have strong foundation skills in youth work. Lastly, during our training course we also did touch base with other objectives in our accreditation, but the main focus was solely on objective 1.
