Objectives

The overarching aim of the project was to strengthen the professional preparation and development of youth work students—around half of whom are practising youth workers—by providing international learning opportunities and practice-based learning. It sought to enrich youth work curricula with a European dimension so that students are equipped to work with young people locally and internationally through exposure to different European youth work contexts and practices, clarifying the role of youth work and youth workers at European level. A further objective was to integrate formal and non-formal education to introduce new themes, methods and approaches into the professional preparation of youth workers—especially topics underrepresented in Estonia or newly salient in the current geopolitical and socio-cultural context, such as peace education, addressing ethnic/cultural conflicts in youth work, diversity and intersectionality, and the development of evidence-based youth work. The project also initiated and strengthened cooperation with international partners to jointly reflect on developments in the field, learn from one another’s practice, and share Estonian good practices, thereby contributing to youth work quality across Europe.
