Objectives

The project aimed to develop the intercultural communicative competences of young individuals and to support their personal and professional growth. We wanted to respond to the growing need for effective communication in an increasingly globalized world, where interaction between different cultures has become inevitable. Inspired by the idea of the "Global Village" by Marshall McLuhan, we recognized that young people, who travel more and use technology more actively than other groups, needed stronger intercultural communication skills. We also aimed to increase young people's tolerance, empathy, and understanding towards people from different cultural backgrounds. With growing migration due to wars, economic and social problems, natural disasters, and the climate crisis, it was important for young people to develop sensitivity toward their own and others’ cultures. We wanted participants to become more respectful, open-minded, and capable of adapting to different cultural situations. Another goal was to improve the participants' language skills, since language competence is a key part of intercultural communication. Based on Eurostat data, we saw a need to address the low rate of foreign language proficiency in Türkiye compared to Estonia and Greece. Through this project, we provided opportunities for young people to practice speaking in foreign languages, express themselves with more confidence, and analyze how language proficiency affects intercultural experiences. In addition, the project aimed to promote the Erasmus+ Programme among young people by showing the opportunities it offers for personal and professional development. The specific objectives we targeted were: • To develop participants’ abilities for intercultural verbal communication. • To promote empathy, understanding, and tolerance through interactive activities. • To encourage language practice and the use of multiple languages as communication tools. • To improve participants' digital communication skills using tools like video meetings, social media, and online collaboration platforms. • To support participants' self-awareness, self-confidence, and ability to adapt by pushing them outside their comfort zones. • To raise awareness about the importance of cultural diversity and the benefits of intercultural cooperation for building a peaceful society. • To provide participants with knowledge and tools to recognize and challenge stereotypes, prejudices, and discrimination. • To strengthen participants' appreciation and understanding of different cultures. • To encourage modern solutions to combat social exclusion and discrimination. • To develop young people’s cooperation and project management skills. • To improve participants’ active listening abilities. • To introduce participants to non-violent communication techniques for use in their personal lives and communities. • To raise awareness among young people about the benefits of participating in Erasmus+ projects. • To provide participants with information about different Erasmus+ opportunities. • To equip young people with the necessary skills to actively engage in Erasmus+ activities, including application strategies and cultural integration.
