From the perspective of youth work practice, our project objectives were designed to address both the personal and further professional development of participants and their ability to contribute positively to their communities. The age between 18 and 30 years is a time of massive changes and big life decisions. In our daily work with young adults in Estonia, we saw that finishing school, finding meaning in future plans, and navigating the challenges of personal relationships posed big obstacles for many of them. The youth exchange “CommuniKey” provided young people with guidance on their way to discover their core aspirations and equipped them with advanced communication techniques to navigate this challenging time in their lives. The communication techniques covered in the project included practices like effective dialogue, nonviolent communication, empathetic listening, conflict resolution, and public speaking. These professional tools enabled participants to articulate their ideas clearly, engage in constructive debates, and navigate their personal and professional relationships responsibly. These skills were valuable in private life, but also at work. Young people benefited from these skills when, for example, starting their first job, managing job interviews, discussing responsibilities, taking a stand for healthy work environments, or debating salary. By addressing the root causes of conflicts and promoting dialogue and reconciliation, we aimed to empower young individuals to become ambassadors for peaceful communities. We built an informed youth that understood key societal challenges, such as inclusion, discrimination, and intercultural conflict. The project promoted self-awareness and personal development through workshops and reflective practices, helping participants gain a deeper understanding of themselves, their values, and their strengths. This focus on self-discovery was essential for building confidence and resilience. We underlined the importance of lifelong learning and self-improvement by developing skills that were relevant not only in youth but throughout life. Through active participation in project planning and workshop facilitation, young people gained valuable leadership and organizational skills. This hands-on experience was crucial for their personal and professional development. One additional objective was to encourage social engagement by motivating participants to plan subsequent activities and take active roles in their communities through volunteer work and social initiatives. By linking project activities to real-world actions, we demonstrated the impact of individual contributions to collective social progress. As with every Erasmus+ Youth exchange, this project facilitated intercultural learning and exchange by bringing together young people from diverse backgrounds. With the focus on communication skills, we enhanced mutual understanding, empathy, respect, and cooperation among different cultures.
