Objectives

The aim of the project “Act it out!” was to support young people's personal development and self-expression through theatre and intercultural cooperation. The central idea of the project was to use performing arts as a tool to help young people better understand themselves, their emotions, and values, develop communication skills, and strengthen teamwork. We wanted to create an environment where young people could safely experiment, make mistakes, and learn — while being active creators of their own learning journey. The project encouraged participants to express their ideas creatively and to discover how different cultural backgrounds enrich a shared creative process. Main objectives: To develop young people's self-confidence and performance skills through theatrical activities and the process of creating a performance. To promote intercultural understanding and cooperation between Estonian and Spanish youth. To support young people's social and communication skills through joint creative activities and teamwork. To create opportunities for reflection and learning, connecting it to personal and social development (e.g., through Youthpass). To strengthen cooperation between partner organisations and lay the foundation for future joint projects. The project also supported the horizontal priorities of the Erasmus+ programme – inclusion and diversity, as participants came from communities with different backgrounds and experiences, as well as environmental sustainability, as we applied eco-conscious principles both in travel and activity organisation. Project results and impact Young participants confirmed that the theatrical activities and performance process helped them overcome stage fright, express their thoughts more confidently, and become more aware of their strengths. Many highlighted that performing publicly during the Tõrva Fire Days gave them a strong sense of achievement and boosted their self-belief. Estonian and Spanish youth learned about each other’s cultures through joint activities, language games, and cultural evenings. Differences were approached in an open and respectful manner, creating a friendly and collaborative atmosphere. Many participants stayed in contact after the project and expressed a desire to continue working together in the future. Throughout the project, young people learned how to work in teams, solve misunderstandings, and express their opinions constructively. Reflection sessions showed that group work taught them responsibility, active listening, and empathy. Various creative methods were used for reflection, such as discussion circles, emotion cards, and short performances. Participants also filled in their Youthpass learning outcome cards, which helped them articulate what they had learned on a personal, social, and cultural level. At the end of the project, each participant received a personal notebook containing a motivational message and individual feedback. This thoughtful gesture helped reinforce their learning experience and supported personal reflection. Both Estonian and Spanish partner organisations considered the project a highly valuable collaboration experience. Cooperation worked reliably and effectively both in the preparation phase and during activities. The partners expressed a clear interest in continuing their collaboration in future youth exchanges and mobility projects. The project’s objectives were largely achieved, and feedback from participants and partner organisations confirmed that the project responded well to both the young people's needs and the partnership goals. Through reflection and Youthpass documentation, it was verified that the learning outcomes were fully in line with the initially set aims.
