The project Sustainability as an Attitude aimed to achieve several key objectives within the field of youth work, using a combination of theatrical methodologies and environmental sustainability principles to foster innovation, collaboration, and action. Our primary goal was to bridge the gap between youth workers specializing in theatre-based education and those focused on environmental activism, permaculture, and climate change awareness. By bringing these two groups together, we sought to create a shared understanding of sustainability that integrates personal, social, and environmental dimensions. Specific Objectives of the Project: - Equipping youth workers with tools and methodologies for sustainability-focused youth work: The project aimed to train youth workers in innovative approaches that would enable them to engage young people in sustainable thinking and action. A key component of this was the use of theatre as an educational tool, demonstrating how theatrical techniques can be employed to communicate sustainability messages in impactful and engaging ways. - Fostering collaboration between youth workers and organizations: The project provided a platform for networking, encouraging partnerships between organizations specializing in youth work, environmental activism, and permaculture. By creating opportunities for knowledge exchange, we aimed to build stronger networks and encourage cross-disciplinary cooperation that will continue beyond the project. - Exploring the intersection between theatre and sustainability: A core aspect of the project was to develop innovative strategies that integrate theatre with sustainability education. Participants engaged in interactive workshops, role-playing exercises, and storytelling sessions, exploring how drama, movement, and creative expression can be used to raise awareness about environmental issues and inspire action. - Empowering youth workers as agents of change: The project emphasized leadership development, equipping participants with practical strategies to implement sustainable initiatives within their communities. By combining theatre methodologies with environmental education, youth workers gained new skills to inspire young people towards positive social and environmental transformation. - Through the Dragon Dreaming methodology, participants not only gained knowledge in facilitation techniques, group dynamics, and project management, but also learned how to develop and implement visionary, community-driven initiatives rooted in sustainability principles. This method encouraged them to collaborate effectively, dream boldly, and co-create projects that align with both personal and collective values. By applying Dragon Dreaming principles, youth workers discovered how to design projects that are holistic, inclusive, and self-sustaining, fostering long-term engagement and positive impact within their communities. The project provided training in facilitation techniques, group dynamics, and project management, with a special focus on the Dragon Dreaming methodology. This holistic approach to project development enabled participants to design and implement sustainable, community-driven initiatives. - Encouraging personal and social growth through experiential learning: Throughout the training, participants engaged in team-building exercises, problem-solving challenges, and reflective discussions, which fostered critical thinking, empathy, and cooperation. This experiential learning approach ensured that participants not only acquired theoretical knowledge but also developed interpersonal skills that are crucial for effective youth work. Ultimately, Sustainability as an Attitude sought to empower youth workers with the tools, knowledge, and collaborative networks necessary to engage young people in sustainability efforts, ensuring a lasting impact on their communities. By creating a space where theatre practitioners and environmental activists could exchange expertise and methods, the project laid the foundation for future collaborations, innovative educational practices, and a strengthened commitment to sustainability.
