The aim of the project was to encourage young people to express their opinions, present their ideas and participate in discussions at local level. The goal was achieved on several levels. The young people themselves highlighted topics that were focused on throughout the project, such as the comparison of social media and real life, active and passive youth and the career ladder. These topics were discussed at the Viljandi [pre-]opinion festival, where young people found their own moderators, including one young person himself. Specialists and people working with young people also took part in the discussions. On 12 August 2024, the youth councils of Viljandi city and rural municipality discussed whether it is possible to teach adults to really listen to young people. Real discussions showed that adults often do not really listen. The discussion of the youth festival also proved this visually - in the discussion time frame, airtime was filled by decision-makers rather than young people. In world cafes, young people discussed in the schools of Viljandi parish and brought up the idea that teachers are motivated to listen to young people because they get paid for it, but parents do not know how or do not really want to listen to their children. The project succeeded in increasing the participation of young people in local debates, especially in the youth council, to which new members have joined. One particular example of success was when the youth council was able to persuade the municipality to retain the title of "Youth of the Year", which was originally intended to be replaced by the title "Maker of the Year", where young people should have competed with adults. The original aim of the project was to reach 205 young people aged 13-30 and this goal was met through three events. In total, 540 people of different ages participated in the project on the basis of registration forms. The implementation of the project strongly developed the youth work of the Youth Centre of Viljandi Municipality, as it was the first Erasmus+ project implemented by the Youth Centre and today there is competence available as a more valuable Eurodesk partner, as there is an opportunity to share the experience of a participatory project. The young people and youth workers who were part of the project team are proud of the activities organised and are very prone to share their experience outside their youth centre and home municipality. The experience has already been shared at the Erasmus+ experience stories brunch in Viljandi County and at the inaugural conference of enterprising young people in Southern Estonia in Viljandi within the framework of the Eurodesk workshop.
