With this project, we aimed to foster a community where understanding and kindness prevail over misinformation and online hostility. Through the power of humor and media literacy, we envisioned a space where young minds are equipped not just with tools to discern truth but with the compassion to engage positively online. It's about transforming the digital landscape into a place of connection rather than division, empowering youth to create a kinder, more inclusive online world. This Youth Exchange aimed exactly at that: to empower young Europeans with digital literacy and critical thinking skills, enabling them to discern factual information from misinformation. Specific project goals were O1: Enhancing participants' understanding of journalism principles and media literacy to assess news and information sources critically. O2: Equipping youth with the skills to identify and counteract fake news, misinformation, and disinformation prevalent in digital media. O3: Encouraging the use of humor as a tool to engage with and counter online trolling and hate speech effectively. O4: Developing participants' abilities to create content that adheres to ethical journalism standards while addressing societal issues. O5: Empowering participants to use their newly acquired skills for positive social impact, promoting responsible and informed citizenship in the digital age. From the perspective of youth work practice, this project addressed the pressing challenge of online misinformation and aimed to cultivate a safer, more respectful digital environment. It sought to empower young individuals with the knowledge, critical thinking, and creative communication skills necessary to navigate and positively influence online spaces. By fostering digital literacy and ethical content creation, the project envisioned a generation of young Europeans who can discern truth from falsehood, counteract trolling with humor, and contribute to building inclusive online communities." The project addressed key issues faced by young people in the digital realm: the spread of misinformation, online trolling, and hate speech. Through this initiative, we strived not just to solve a problem but to transform the digital landscape into a space of understanding and respect.
