The project “Healthy Mind in a Healthy Body” aimed to explore the strong connection between mental and physical health for the overall wellbeing of young people across European countries. The project aspired and achieved to promote holistic well-being among young people through its non-formal learning and peer to peer learning activities. These were implemented in the framework of a Youth Exchange activity, in which we engaged participants with experiences that addressed both aspects of health, helping them understand the importance of maintaining a balanced and healthy lifestyle. More specifically, we aimed to deepen young people’s understanding and knowledge in matters related to both physical and mental health especially when it came to things that reflected vividly in their everyday lives. On a theoretical level, we aimed to: • Encourage discussions on the evolving concept of health and well-being over time • Examine key factors affecting health, such as diet, physical activity, stress levels, and social interaction • Highlight the benefits of maintaining a proper diet and engaging in regular exercise • Raise awareness about the significance of mental health, especially in the post-COVID context • Challenge the stigma around seeking psychological help and promote openness toward mental health support On a secondary level, we also intended to equip them with practical skills to promote well-being within their peer groups—particularly by sharing healthy habits related to nutrition and physical activity. Our vision included to make the participants ambassadors and advocates for youth’s wellbeing, starting by their local communities and environments, including any youth organizations or sports associations they were part of. On a practical and skills-based level, we aimed to: • Train young participants to become advocates and ambassadors of well-being and healthy living • Promote intercultural dialogue and respect by working in a diverse, multicultural environment • Enhance digital competencies, particularly in creating awareness campaigns through social media • Build confidence and team spirit by organizing and participating in sports tournaments informally and trying out new physical activities Ultimately, our goal was to empower young people to take care of both their minds and bodies while becoming positive agents of change within their communities.
