Objectives

The S.R.P. (Save, Run, Pick) project was envisioned and organized as a combination of the adrenaline-pumping world of lifesaving sports with the eco-conscious activity of plogging, creating a powerful blend aimed at promoting both environmental activism and physical health among youth. This innovative combination nurtured a generation that was not only physically fit and proficient in lifesaving techniques but also passionately committed to environmental preservation and community service during the mobility. Through the lens of youth work practice, the project's goals were to equip participants with life skills, foster personal development, and encourage a positive societal contribution. The objectives of the project were: • O1: To engage and educate young individuals with the knowledge and skills to ensure safety near water bodies and to undertake environmental cleanup activities effectively and responsibly. • O2: To promote "lifesaving games" as skills through which young people were interactive and engaged, enhancing participants' understanding and capabilities in water safety, rescue techniques, and first aid. • O3: To promote "plogging" as a tool to help young people become more active and healthy, while also serving as a way to fight back against global pollution. • O4: To increase environmental awareness and elevated consciousness regarding ecological issues, especially emphasizing the fight against plastic pollution. • O5: To commit to the collection and proper disposal of at least 500 kilograms of litter from targeted beaches and urban areas, showcasing the direct environmental benefits of the efforts. • O6: To create a model to demonstrate how sports could drive environmental action within and beyond the Erasmus+ framework. From the perspective of youth work practice, the project sought to deepen young people's understanding of environmental challenges, particularly focusing on plastic pollution and waste management. It aimed to empower them to become sustainability advocates within their communities. Engaging in activities like plogging allowed participants to see the tangible effects of litter on the environment, nurturing a sense of ecological responsibility. Lifesaving sports were introduced to enhance participants' physical health and provide them with essential lifesaving skills. The project drove home the value of incorporating physical activity into daily life and encouraged ongoing participation in sports that offer practical benefits for safety and emergency situations. Through various activities, including workshops and practical exercises, the project helped participants develop crucial soft skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, and problem-solving. This diverse range of experiences was designed to push participants beyond their comfort zones, fostering personal growth and self-confidence.
