Objectives

Acknowledging the importance of fostering quality youth work as per the EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027, Cultivating Tomorrow was conceptualized as a project to bring together youth workers with different backgrounds and equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to improve youth work practices in Europe, steward civic engagement and youth participation in democratic life in their communities, and drive positive change towards the Green Transition. As a matter of fact, in a world where daily headlines are dominated by alarming news about the escalating climate crisis and where major international actors like the United Nations and the European Union are urgently calling for action and implementing comprehensive plans to combat it, it is imperative for civil society to mobilize and actively participate in the Green Transition. Importantly, Cultivating Tomorrow fully aligns with the European Union Youth Strategy 2019-2027 centering on youth engagement, connection, and empowerment. Our project is dedicated to fostering holistic education, supporting participants in developing decisive skills for youth work, with a specific focus on supporting those with fewer opportunities. Participants will experience firsthand and gain insights into effective mentoring, guidance, and support techniques, enabling them to better address the diverse needs and challenges faced by youth in their communities. The project is fully in line with the specific objectives pursued by the Erasmus+ Programme in its key action related to youth mobility but also with the “Recommendation on learning for environmental sustainability” of the Council of the EU (2022), according to which the sensitization and training of the youth “to understand, engage with and value the natural world and its biodiversity, create a sense of curiosity and wonder and learn to act for sustainability” are a top priority. Specifically, Cultivating Tomorrow seeks to achieve the following objectives: • Youth Workers’ Professional Development: Empower youth workers with knowledge and skills to enhance their professional, social and linguistic skills. By doing so, their effectiveness in engaging and empowering young people will increase, fostering more inclusive and impactful youth development initiatives at local, national and European level. • Improvement of Quality of Services: Enhance the quality of services provided by participants and the organizations to which they belong. This improvement is to benefit a broad audience, particularly young people and leaders involved in social utility projects. The focus is on providing services that are better suited to needs based on active and participatory methods, and fostering civic and citizen awareness. • Civic Engagement: Offer a space to youth workers to understand the importance of active citizenship and reflect upon the impact that they in first person, as well as the youth that they work with, can have as citizens of the EU, both collectively and individually, through democratic, social and civic engagement. • Environmental Sustainability and Responsibility: Foster an understanding of the critical role of healthy ecosystems, including – between others - biodiversity, soil health and the relationship with animals in environmental preservation, offering the necessary skills and knowledge for participants to become forces of change and advocates for sustainable practices within their communities. • Cross-Cultural Collaboration: Facilitate intercultural exchange and cooperation among youth workers, encouraging the sharing of best practices and innovative ideas across borders and fostering respect for diversity, while offering opportunities for networking and peer exchange. The project's alumni network is expected to transform into a hub for ongoing learning and collaboration, which organizations can tap into to access best practices and partnerships across Europe. • Inclusivity: Create an opportunity for youth workers to experience and appreciate the importance of inclusive practices, offering them tools and methods to promote the respect of diversity and to manage it in their daily work with youth, contributing to a more equitable and sustainable future where all individuals, regardless of their differences, can actively participate in shaping a better world. In line with the Erasmus+ priorities and the Green Deal's ambitions, the Cultivating Tomorrow project is a beacon of collaborative action, knowledge dissemination, and transformative education. It will reinforce and enhance the professional and personal competencies of youth workers from 5 European countries on the basis of the Youthpass and GreenComp frameworks. Recognizing the potential for their newly-acquired knowledge to amplify within their communities, the project aims to empower the participants to foster quality youth work at local, regional, national and European level, while leading the transition towards a greener, more resilient Europe.
