With this project, it was expected to develop teaching resources and carry out educational activities in a collaborative way in order to foster students’ digital citizenship skills, in line, among other reference frameworks, with the Digital Competence Framework launched by the European Commission, whose key components are information and data literacy, communication and collaboration, digital content creation, safety, and problem solving. In this context, it was expected to develop digital citizenship skills by working in three specific areas: [1] energy saving and optimisation of the use of digital devices, [2] digital safety and well-being, and [3] the responsible use of AI. In line with these three areas of action, it was also expected to improve our schools’ digitalisation plans by developing educational proposals on digital citizenship, to develop students’ intercultural competences as well as their initiative and critical thinking in relation to educational digitalisation processes, and to contribute to raising young people’s awareness of European citizenship through shared objectives.
This project was created in response to the shared need among all partner organisations to strengthen and promote digital citizenship education for upper secondary students in a context of increasing educational digitalisation. Although the partners already had digitalisation plans in place, the preparation phase highlighted the need to specifically address the responsible, safe, critical and sustainable use of digital technologies. This includes, in particular, the adoption of energy-efficiency measures in educational digitalisation, the promotion of digital well-being, and reflection on the use of AI for educational purposes. In this regard, the project has addressed several key needs: the development of students’ digital competences in line with European reference frameworks; the improvement of digital safety and well-being in educational environments; the responsible integration of AI into teaching; and the optimisation of the sustainable use of digital devices. Finally, the project has also contributed to strengthening European cooperation between educational institutions, all within the framework of the European Year of Education for Digital Citizenship 2025.
