Objectives

Cyberbullying is a form of harassment facilitated by digital technologies, manifesting across various online platforms including social media, messaging apps, gaming networks, and mobile devices which are intensively used by young people in the past decade. The consequences of cyberbullying could be severe, particularly for young individuals, leading to diminished self-esteem, breaches of privacy, depression, anxiety, physical health problems, and even hindrances in academic performance. Some of these repercussions can persist into adulthood. Recognizing the pressing need to tackle this issue, the "Be Active, Stop Cyberbullying Today!" initiative was conceived. Its primary objective was to explore the realm of cyberbullying, which was prevalent on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and YouTube. In light of the modern challenges faced by educational institutions, this project aimed to empower individuals with the tools and knowledge to combat cyberbullying effectively. By leveraging non-formal education methods and highlighting key aspects of cyberbullying, the initiative strove to create safer online environments. The central mission of "Be Active, Stop Cyberbullying Today!" was to raise awareness about the harmful effects of online hate speech and cyberbullying. Additionally, it aimed to inspire young individuals to become community leaders who critically assessed the impact of social media. The initiative's specific objectives included: - Enhancing understanding of the impact of social media on self-esteem and confidence. - Educating youth about online risks, with a particular emphasis on cyberbullying and online hate speech. - Promoting responsible internet and social media usage. - Teaching digital literacy and online safety skills. - Instructing participants on how to protect their personal data and reputation. - Enhancing participants' information and communication technology (ICT) skills through modern content creation. - Developing essential competencies such as English communication, intercultural teamwork, problem-solving, conflict management, and leadership in diverse contexts. - Breaking stereotypes and exploring the opportunities that the Erasmus+ Programme offered. - Promoting networking opportunities among participants and their organizations. The Youth Exchange component of this initiative included non-formal educational techniques, such as presentations, group activities, theatre plays, debates, peer learning, and participant-led workshops, all overseen by experienced leaders. Aligned with European policies, "Be Active, Stop Cyberbullying Today!" underlined the priorities of the Erasmus+ Programme, emphasizing intercultural dialogue, inclusivity, media literacy, and youth empowerment.
