Objectives

"Disconnect to Connect" addresses the growing dependence on new technologies and social media among young Europeans. Recognizing the potential threat these may pose to personal relationships and emotional well-being, this youth exchange proposes a seven-day digital disconnection as a step back from constant connectivity. The project aims for a reconnection through self-reflection, creative expression, and exploration of personal aspects overshadowed by digital overexposure. During the digital pause, the goal is to rediscover passions, strengthen self-confidence, and deepen self-awareness. On an interpersonal level, the project seeks to forge new relationships through cultural and intercultural activities, as well as outdoor experiences. The absence of digital distractions aims to promote mindful attention to relationships, enhancing mutual understanding and appreciation. Nature will play a central role in the reconnection, with activities in the volcanic landscape of Fuerteventura, a Biosphere Reserve. The exchange also aims to raise awareness among participants about environmental challenges and introduce new tools for global nature protection. In the long run, "Disconnect to Connect" aspires to have the lessons learned during the exchange positively influence participants' lives, relationships, emotional well-being, and their relationship with technology. The main objective is that, upon concluding this experience, everyone becomes more self-aware, more aware of their relationships and the world around them, establishing clear boundaries in the use of mobile devices and social media. This, in turn, will result in a positive change both personally and in the social environment of each participant. The program has been collaboratively designed among organizations from five countries - Spain, Slovenia, Croatia, Cyprus and Bulgaria - considering identified needs and incorporating direct participation from respective youth collectives. Together, we aim to provide an alternative, recognizing that this issue is of global scope and requires solutions that transcend national boundaries.
