Objectives

The current situation in the society we live in means that young people (and every people, in general) have greater mental health problems. The rapid pace of societal change, coupled with the great pressure they experience and the difficulty of emancipating themselves, means that young people's own mental health is diminished. As professionals in the youth field, we realize that mental health is increasingly important in our work as well. It has been a pending issue for many years, and new generations of young people have begun to give it the importance it deserves. Therefore, the time has come to address the issue through youth policies and, to the extent possible, to do so alongside young people themselves. We believe that, as in so many other aspects of young people's lives, non-formal education can be a good space to work on mental health, as the dynamics and ways of doing things intrinsic to it make it appropriate for this purpose. Through this project, we aimed to ensure that the young people who participated in it learned and acquired tools that would allow them to improve their mental health. To achieve this, in addition to sharing their experience with young people from other countries, they received support from professionals working in the field of mental health. Therefore, we believe this project has been very necessary and interesting for the young people who participated, but it will also serve to define ways of addressing the issue through non-formal education and youth policies. The main objectives sought to be achieved through the development of this project were the following: - To reflect with young people from other European countries on the importance of caring for mental health. - To empower young people to take charge of their own mental health, developing the necessary skills to do so. - To learn about the reality and perspectives of young people from other European countries regarding mental health. - Understand that mental health is a generic issue that affects young people in all countries and that addressing it from different perspectives can help us better understand it. - Discover new ways of addressing mental health through non-formal education and youth policies.
