Objectives

The project GreenArt: Connecting Culture, Youth, and Nature was designed as a transformative experience of non-formal and intercultural learning for European youth, with the goal of creatively and collaboratively addressing the challenges related to sustainability and environmental awareness. Its implementation was envisioned as a meeting point for young people from diverse backgrounds and nationalities who share a common sensitivity toward ecological values, art as a tool for change, and active participation as a driver of social transformation. Through this youth exchange, the project aimed not only to raise participants’ awareness about the importance of protecting the environment, but also to equip them with competencies, skills, and resources to become agents of change in their communities. A combination of non-formal education methodologies, creative activities, hands-on experiences, and collaborative work provided an optimal environment to achieve these aims. The main objectives that guided the implementation of the project were: To foster environmental awareness among European youth, by providing knowledge and encouraging critical reflection on issues such as climate change, responsible consumption, circular economy, and biodiversity preservation—all approached in a positive, action-oriented way. To develop creativity and innovative thinking, using art as a universal language and vehicle for personal and collective expression. Activities focused on transforming recycled materials, producing collaborative artworks, and using contemporary artistic techniques to convey sustainability messages. To promote active participation and youth empowerment, strengthening young people’s sense of agency as changemakers. Participants were directly involved in the planning, execution, and facilitation of specific actions, such as volunteering and preparing for the Jardín Secreto Festival held in Murcia. To contribute to social inclusion through the involvement of young people with fewer opportunities. In total, 12 of the 31 participants came from economically, socially, or geographically disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring a rich and equitable experience that valued diversity and reinforced intercultural cohesion. To strengthen transnational cooperation and the creation of European youth networks, by connecting organisations from six different countries: Spain, Portugal, Italy, Bulgaria, Estonia, and Poland. This collaboration generated synergies, enabled the sharing of good practices, and laid the foundation for future joint initiatives in the fields of youth, art, and the environment. Furthermore, the project was designed with a strong experiential and contextual component, using the urban and natural environment of the city of Murcia as a setting for learning and action. The inclusion of the Jardín Secreto Festival as a key activity helped reinforce the connection with the local community and added value both to the citizens of Murcia and to the participating organisations. In summary, GreenArt successfully delivered a coherent, inclusive, and transformative educational initiative that integrated sustainability, art, youth participation, and intercultural exchange. Its proper implementation—with the involvement of all 31 expected participants and the full delivery of the approved activity schedule—allowed the project to fully achieve its stated objectives, generating a positive impact at both individual and community levels.
