Objectives

The project "United Voices: Combating Loneliness through Collective Action" was implemented with the primary aim of addressing the growing issue of loneliness and social isolation among young people in Europe, particularly in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic disrupted social connections and routines, leading to a significant increase in mental health concerns, with young people among the most affected. Our goal was to create meaningful opportunities for young people aged 16–29 to reconnect with others, regain a sense of belonging, and rebuild their social confidence. Through this project, we aimed to foster stronger community ties, encourage open conversations about mental health, and reduce the stigma surrounding loneliness. The objectives of the project were multifaceted. First, we sought to raise awareness about the widespread impact of loneliness on both the mental and physical well-being of young people. We aimed to create safe spaces where participants could openly share their personal experiences, thoughts, and emotions, thus breaking the taboo around feelings of isolation. Second, the project aimed to empower young individuals with practical tools and coping strategies to manage stress, overcome social pressure, and strengthen their mental resilience. By involving youth in collective actions, workshops, and creative sessions, we encouraged them to become active agents in improving their own mental health and that of their peers. Another key objective was to promote social inclusion by building supportive networks among youth from diverse backgrounds across different European countries. We brought together organizations from Spain, Sweden, Türkiye, Austria, and beyond to co-create activities that enabled young people to express themselves, form friendships, and engage in intercultural dialogue. By fostering solidarity and understanding, we hoped to combat the emotional and psychological consequences of isolation. Ultimately, the project aimed not only to address immediate emotional needs but also to inspire long-term social engagement and community building, ensuring that young people felt seen, heard, and valued in their societies.
