Objectives

Mental health, understood as "a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with life's stressful moments, to develop all their abilities, to learn and work properly and to contribute to the improvement of their community" as defined by the WHO, has not obtained over the years the recognition and appreciation it needs. In fact, during and after the health crisis experienced by Covid- 19, there has been a need to pay more attention to it, due to the increase of cases and problems in the entire population, and especially in youth. Looking at the definition, this period has brought stress to all people because of everything that the Covid-19 disease itself entails, but also what it has caused: the obligation to stay at home, the closure of public spaces and workplaces, the lack of physical and social contact, uncertainty ... in general, stopping our daily routine and our lives, a stressful situation that, due to not having developed a state of mental wellbeing, has produced many problems and diseases. After being aware of this problem and believing that we have a very important role in improving mental health in ourselves, in our close circle and in society in general, we decided to get together young people from several countries, starting with Spain and Slovakia, to be joined later by Greece, Turkey, Ireland and Poland, and create a youth exchange in which we put the focus on the importance of knowing and taking care of our mental health and the benefits we will get and the improvement in our health in general thanks to this. After the joint collaboration of all partners, we defined the main objective of the project: To improve the mental health of young Europeans in rural areas of the European Union. This is clearly a very ambitious goal, but we believe that the young people involved in this project will be the key to their own change and to the multiplier effect of their actions and new skills. In order to achieve the envisaged objective, we concluded that we needed to cover the specific objectives that would lead to the success of the project: 1. Create spaces to facilitate physical contact between the 30 young people, in which emotions and thoughts are shared and in which we develop active listening, empathy and emotional expression. 2. Improve the quality of emotional management in the 30 young people, investigating about emotions, reflecting on their importance through various artistic and movement techniques and expressing ourselves in a non-verbal way. 3. Increase healthy habits in the 30 young people, exchanging ideas and experiences about our own habits through theater and positive leisure in nature. In our project, we want to create an atmosphere of trust, relaxed , where participants can express ourselves comfortably, where respect and tolerance prevail, where we are able to empathize with the other person, where we break with the prejudices and stigma of mental health problems, where we develop our skills, which makes us recover the time we have not been able to be in contact, in which we develop our self-knowledge and promote the improvement of our self-esteem, where we learn about emotions, thanks to which we will improve our physical health, which helps us to promote our motivation to fight for our dreams and goals, which encourages us to be more involved in our community and in society in general... In general, creating a space that helps us to improve our mental health through playful, fun, creative activities in contact with nature, which provides so many benefits. Young people are the engine of change in society and we do believe that a better world is possible, but we believe that to achieve this we must first have good personal mental health, which will give us enough empowerment and motivation to then transform our society and the world we live in.
