Objectives

"Speak Up" starts from a profound understanding of the contemporary challenges faced by young people, particularly concerning communication dynamics in an increasingly interconnected world. Recognizing the detrimental impact of violent communication and hate speech, the project aims to promote non-violent communication as a vital tool for fostering empathy, respect, and mutual understanding among youth. Partners, all deeply involved in education, training, and youth empowerment, have identified the prevalence of violent communication and the urgent need to explore diverse communication modalities. They aim to equip young people with practical skills to navigate responsibly in both digital and social realms, countering hate speech and promoting inclusivity. Addressing linguistic poverty and social disparities, the project seeks to empower young people from diverse backgrounds to recognize, prevent, and counteract violent communication and hate speech. Through awareness campaigns and advocacy initiatives, participants will actively challenge discriminatory norms and promote positive social change. The project's specific objectives include exploring communication modalities, equipping young people with tools to tackle hate speech online, and encouraging youth activism and social awareness. By fostering a generation of empathetic and socially conscious youth, the project aims to catalyze lasting cultural change towards respect, understanding, and social cohesion. From the perspective of youth work practice, the project aims to empower young people with the necessary skills, knowledge, and attitudes to navigate and positively influence their social environments. By focusing on non-violent communication, the project aligns with the principles of youth work, which emphasize the holistic development of young individuals and their active participation in society. Through experiential learning methods and peer-to-peer interactions, participants will engage in activities designed to enhance their communication skills, critical thinking, and social awareness. By exploring various communication modalities, they will learn to express themselves effectively, understand different perspectives, and resolve conflicts constructively. Moreover, the project emphasizes the role of youth activism and social engagement, encouraging participants to become agents of change in their communities. Establishing a sense of responsibility and civic duty, the project empowers young people to address issues such as hate speech and discrimination, promoting social cohesion and inclusivity. Overall, from the perspective of youth work practice, the project seeks to create a supportive and empowering environment where young people can develop the competencies and confidence needed to navigate the complexities of the modern world and contribute positively to society.
