Objectives

The main objective of our project “Non formal education activities to engage NEETs into SDG´s” was to tackle the challenges faced by young people in precarious employment situations, specifically targeting the NEET group. By focusing on youth organizations and youth workers as primary facilitators, the project aimed to strengthen their capacity to connect with NEET youth, integrating them into non-formal educational activities that would boost their social, economic, and democratic engagement. Through this approach, the project anticipated a positive increase in the activation of these disadvantaged young people, enhancing their potential to participate meaningfully in various spheres of life. The core ambition was to foster NEET youth’s active participation in society by making non-formal educational spaces more inclusive and supportive of their unique needs. To achieve this, the project concentrated on empowering youth organizations and youth workers, ensuring they had the tools and understanding necessary to engage NEET youth effectively. This project was structured in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set forth in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The SDGs represent a universal call to eradicate poverty and promote sustainable, inclusive development globally. Specifically, this project focused on SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), both highly relevant to NEET empowerment. However, the project extended beyond these two goals by cultivating a holistic understanding of all 17 SDGs among youth workers, fostering a comprehensive framework that youth workers could use to mobilize NEET youth into action. The underlying idea was that if youth workers fully understand the SDGs, they would be better equipped to develop creative solutions, activities, and opportunities that appeal to NEET youth and encourage their active involvement in achieving these global goals. To achieve the general goals, YPA Spain identified several specific objectives aimed at creating a tangible, measurable impact: 1.Strengthening Youth Workers’ Knowledge of the SDGs: One key objective was to deepen youth workers’ understanding of each of the 17 SDGs and how these can be applied practically in their work with NEET youth. 2.Improving Youth Workers’ Ability to Analyze NEET Needs and Challenges: Another important objective was to enhance youth workers’ capability to assess the specific needs and barriers facing NEET youth in their communities. This involved developing youth workers' skills to identify the unique challenges NEET youth face and to create targeted strategies that address these issues. By understanding these challenges more deeply, youth workers could identify concrete ways to activate NEET youth through engagement in each of the 17 SDGs. 3.Co-Developing Innovative Non-Formal Education Activities: The project also sought to develop a range of 12 innovative non-formal educational activities tailored to increase NEET youth engagement. The aim was for NEET youth to see these activities not just as learning opportunities, but as pathways to improve their lives, connect with their communities, and develop a sense of purpose and empowerment. Through these objectives we aimed to make a substantial impact by fostering an environment that not only addressed the immediate employment challenges faced by NEET youth but also provided them with a meaningful and structured path to engage with societal and global goals. The project was designed to be both impactful in the short term by creating immediate educational and engagement opportunities and sustainable in the long term. This comprehensive approach to NEET empowerment underscores the commitment of YPA Spain to contribute to a more inclusive society in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
