Objectives

This project "Designing & Facilitating Learning Spaces" is motivated by recognizing the changing landscape of learning and the rising importance of non-formal and informal education in fostering personal, organizational, and community development. Traditional education systems often fail to fully prepare individuals for the complexities of the modern world, highlighting the need for continuous, lifelong learning opportunities beyond formal settings. The idea behind this project arises from recognizing the important role that youth workers and facilitators play in shaping the educational experiences and developmental trajectories of young people through non-formal education. Non-formal education serves as a crucial complement to formal education, offering flexible learning opportunities, learner-centered, and often more accessible to diverse populations. It emphasizes the development of life skills, social competencies, and active citizenship, all of which are essential in today's rapidly changing world. NEEDS IDENTIFIED The project addresses several critical needs: 1) Enhanced Facilitation Skills: There is a growing demand for youth workers and facilitators who are equipped with advanced facilitation skills that promote active engagement, inclusion, and personal development among young people. 2) Confidence Building: Many youth workers come into the field with passion and dedication but may lack the confidence or specific competencies needed to effectively design and lead educational activities that captivate and inspire young learners. 3) Innovative and Inclusive Learning Environments: The need for creative and innovative approaches to learning is more critical than ever, especially in engaging hard-to-reach or marginalized youth populations. There's a gap in training that focuses on leveraging creativity and innovation in non-formal educational settings. 4) Networking and Resource Sharing: Youth workers often operate in isolation or with limited access to peer networks where they can share challenges, solutions, and resources. Creating a platform for exchange and collaboration can significantly enhance their work's impact. OBJECTIVES To address these needs, the project has set forth the following objectives: 1) Develop Facilitation Competencies: To equip youth workers with facilitation skills, including active listening, effective questioning, and managing group dynamics, thereby enhancing their ability to lead engaging and impactful learning experiences. 2) Build Confidence and Creativity: To foster confidence among youth workers in their facilitation roles and encourage the use of creative techniques and innovative approaches in non-formal education settings. 3) Promote Inclusivity and Participation: To ensure youth workers are adept at creating inclusive learning environments that cater to diverse learning needs and preferences, encouraging active participation from all young people. 4) Facilitate Networking and Collaboration: To establish a supportive network of youth workers and facilitators, enabling the sharing of resources, experiences, and best practices, and fostering collaboration on future projects and initiatives. 5) Action Plan Development: To support participants in developing actionable plans for applying their new skills and knowledge within their organizations and communities, ensuring the training's long-term impact. PROJECT IDEA: 7-day intensive training course that addresses these needs and objectives through a dynamic and participatory learning experience. By combining theoretical knowledge with practical exercises, creative workshops, and reflective practices, the training aims to transform the participants' approach to facilitation in non-formal education. The course will cover a range of topics, from basic facilitation skills and participatory methods to creative and innovative teaching techniques, all aimed at enhancing the quality of non-formal education provided to young people. This project is not just about skill development; it's about creating a movement of empowered, confident, and creative youth workers who can inspire change and development in their communities. It aims to cultivate a cadre of facilitators who are not only proficient in their craft but also passionate advocates for the transformative power of non-formal education. Through this training, participants will gain not just knowledge and skills, but also access to a supportive community of peers, enhancing their resilience and adaptability in facing the challenges of youth work. The project is driven by a belief in the transformative power of non-formal and informal learning as vehicles for personal and social development. By focusing on the professional development of youth workers, the project seeks to enhance the quality and reach of non-formal education, ultimately contributing to the growth and empowerment of young people across the European Union and beyond.
