The Latitudes project aims to address the migration of Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) individuals in Europe through participatory artistic methodologies and a co-creation process of an artistic piece (either a performance or exhibition). It will bring together 20 professionals in the youth field, educators, and/or facilitators from LAC or Europe currently living in Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Germany, countries with a significant Latin American population. The project seeks to give a voice to individuals from LAC or youth workers operating in environments with a LAC population in Europe, acknowledging the diversity of experiences, barriers, and perspectives. Latitudes will create a space for people from various LAC backgrounds who have arrived in Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Germany. Through collaborative artistic expression, they will challenge stereotypes, break down barriers, and celebrate the richness of a collective heritage. Various visual and performing arts methodologies, such as participatory photography, collage, social theater, or dance, will be used to co-create pieces that highlight shared experiences with local communities. The project aims to generate reflection on issues such as colonialism, intersectionality, various types of borders, and identity. It also seeks to share artistic tools and methodologies with allied organizations, raise awareness against xenophobia and racism, and promote a safe exchange space for migrant educators from LAC in Europe, utilizing the training outcomes as a socioemotional method and communication channel. Project objectives include raising awareness about the realities of migrant individuals through art, promoting the leadership of participants in host countries, and fostering inclusive environments free from xenophobia and racism. From the perspective of working with participants, the project aims to create a safe space to share experiences, visualize realities, and promote inclusion through art and training.
