"The most difficult thing is the decision to act; the rest is merely tenacity.” - Amelia Earhart The decision to act becomes even more complicated in times of various violent conflicts around us, which affects young people disproportionately. Armed conflicts in Ukraine and Palestine, migration crisis in various EU countries, growing ethnic hate, physical violence towards minorities - are only a few challenges which young people and youth workers address in their everyday work when acting towards a more peaceful world. However, very often this acting is challenging, lonely, dangerous, and draining. And keeping tenacity and resilience is not an easy task. In our youth work practice as Wonders Collective, we have realised that there is a need to offer spaces for support, connections, building resilience and keeping up the motivation to act in transforming conflicts. This is the need behind the proposal of this project: SOBREMESA - youth work community of practice in transforming conflicts. Sobremesa is the act of uniting people to talk. And we would like to unite youth workers over a table to talk about their challenges in youth work which transforms conflicts, but also their best practices, inspirations and methods they always wanted to test, and never had space to do. Thus, with this project, we would like to work on the development of a community of practice where youth workers could learn from each other to boost their competencies in transforming violent conflicts and to improve their resilience skills, as well as cooperate to build innovative educational programmes for long-term engagement of young people. Our project would focus on 3 elements: PEER LEARNING on youth work practices in addressing and transforming conflicts RESILIENCE: Building adaptation skills through a nest of support INNOVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY: designing innovative long-term programmes aiming for sustainable engagement of young people in work with local communities. As Wonderers Collective, we believe that youth workers are experts who particularly need spaces where they could gather, share and build community, which would be their source of companions in creating a peaceful social impact. Wonderers Collective belongs to Youth Peace Ambassadors Network (YPAN) - a network of young peacebuilders, however within the YPAN itself, there is no dedicated space for youth workers to exchange their challenges and best practices. Our spotted need for the creation of a community of practice in transforming conflicts is in line with the European Youth Work Agenda where youth work is expected to create spaces to explore, exchange, and build on examples of good practice across different styles of practice. As Margaritis Schinas, vice president of the European Commission, said in the last informal ministerial meeting on Youth, "no problem is solved for young people if they do not actively participate as citizens in its solution", getting this done by "giving them all the chances, all the opportunities they deserve [to be empowered]". The spotted needs are translated into the following aim and objectives: The SOBREMESA project aims to develop competencies of 18 youth workers to establish a community of practice that transforms violent conflicts, builds resilience and boosts the motivation of young people to engage in local context work through peer learning, design of educational programmes, test innovative practices and co-create a digital platform. The objectives of the project are: To find common ground in understanding of conflicts, violence, non-violence and conflict transformation; To develop participants understanding of youth work, its values, legal framework and role of youth work in transforming violent conflicts; To create a space for mapping and sharing challenges in engaging young people in youth work; To enable participants to address violent conflicts and human rights challenges through development of their skills with nonviolent activist approaches; To strengthen resilience skills through self-care and community development activities, such as empathy, resonance, and practising silence; To provide space for peer learning about and through engaging youth work practices; To develop participants competences to design and run long-term (including online) non-formal educational programme; To design innovative methodologies in youth work by encouraging the creation and testing of educational methods for youth engagement; To create an innovation hub for designing at least 6 long-term educational programmes with special focus on online learning To build a sustainable community of practice through cooperation on development of a digital platform for youth workers with canvas for long term educational frameworks. The project will consist of 2 international trainings: 1. on peer learning and resilience (Italy) 2. on innovation and sustainability (Spain). In between the activities participants will go through the practice phase.
