Our main objective was to guarantee equal opportunities for our young people, social inclusion, promoting legislation, policies, and appropriate measures in this regard. And even more, by also working with young people, minors, with judicial measures, at risk of social exclusion. The Foundation echoed the need that was continually expressed by the young people with whom it worked and for whom it works, and wanted to carry out this project hand in hand with the young people who participated in it, and to be able to make known the opinion that our youth had and has about the youth policies that were being carried out, specifically in matters of Mental Health and Emotional Health. The population of the Canary Islands between 16 and 29 years old at risk of suffering from mental health problems increased by almost 5% between 2015 and 2021 according to the Canary Islands Health Survey presented at the end of 2023 by the Canary Health Service and the Canary Institute of Statistics (ISTAC). The prevalence of anxiety reached almost 41% in those under 25 years of age and twice as high in women as in men. The most common disorder in those under 25 years of age was also anxiety (35.7), which increased by 40.7% in that two-year period. Furthermore, from the same survey we found that 13.3% of the Canarian population between 16 and 29 years old had had suicidal thoughts, 5.4% more than in 2015 (7.9%). The context of the pandemic helped to understand the worsening results obtained in the field of mental health. Therefore, we wanted to focus on the care and well-being of our young people, in particular by promoting mental health awareness actions. Another objective of this project was to create participation spaces for young people, where there would be debate, to know their opinions, needs and concerns, spaces where they could freely express their position, their proposals, etc., together with the people responsible for making political decisions, promoting dialogue between both parties, to promote collaboration and coordination of all policies that had to do with young people in a manner consistent with the vision, mission and values of youth policies. These participatory meetings had a double purpose, since, on the one hand, spaces for dialogue were created, young people and decision-makers at the local and regional levels met, and contributed to the dialogue in order to carry out policies with their help. And, on the other hand, important graphic material was obtained (prepared by young people) that will give visibility to the topics discussed in the Project and help disseminate it, and, in addition, we can have first-hand material to work in workshops, etc., with young people. Throughout the development of the Project, we worked on the SDGs and making young people aware of the rights and values of the EU.
