In 2024, the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games will be held in Paris (France) from July 26 to August 11 and Paraolympic games from 28.8.-8.9.. For this reason, Mojo de Caña, in collaboration with different City Councils and sports clubs on the island of Gran Canaria, presents the Inclusion DiscoverEU proposal, with the intention of offering its users, and people from the islands, of legal age (18 years of age) age exactly) with the opportunity to: - Traveling for the first time outside Gran Canaria or traveling for the first time outside the Canary Islands - Traveling for the first time using the train as a means of transport (in the Canary Islands we do not have rail transport), taking all possible measures to travel with minimal impact on the environment. For some people, it will even be their first trip on the plane. - Live an international experience with your peers, for the first time in a multicultural environment - Live values of the Olympic Games that promote, not only cultural diversity and coexistence, but respect, healthy habits, effort, resilience, feeling of unity, celebration of diversities, nations as equals, etc. We want 20 young people from rural areas of Gran Canaria to travel to Paris for 8 days, to be in the city during the Olympic Games, to live that unique experience at only 18 years of age. They will be able to visit Portugal, Spanish cities and finally reach Paris, where they will meet people from all over the world. They will feel the union, they will hear dozens of new languages, new dishes and traditions, flags, colors and music, etc. For this we are proposing several sessions of intercultural dialogue, basic notions in human rights, equity and equality, anti-racist education, etc. At the same time, they will prepare to document the trip and its stories, in order to continue disseminating the experience among their peers, not only on the island of Gran Canaria, but the entire region and much more. We believe that there is a more than evident link between the values and objectives of InclusionDiscoverEU and those of the Olympic Games. Offer young people the opportunity to learn about Europe, live vital and educational experiences through experiential experiences, non-formal and informal education, etc. Promote connection and intercultural dialogue by attending one of the most important events of humanity, which is precisely committed to building a more peaceful and better world through cooperation, solidarity, team spirit, joy and optimism. on the sport. Friendship as a value of Olympic also encourages respect and establishing links with others, beyond these differences. For young people from the Canary Islands, from rural areas (Moya and San Mateo City Council, whose Youth and Sports Departments support this initiative) this experience can, and will mean, a before and after. Finding themselves, these people in a vital change, upon turning 18, their role and role within society will become more visible and active. It is the ideal time for our 20 young people to live this experience, learning by living the privileges and opportunities that Europe offers them, making them feel part and responsible so that diversity and human rights continue to be the premises of our societies, regardless of the remoteness of the European public institutions. We can support them in key processes to overcome the obstacles that prevent these young people from directly participating in the general DiscoverEU application round and provide the necessary support to enable them to travel. Likewise, watching the Olympic Games is not only an exciting and entertaining experience, but it can also offer a wide range of learning opportunities in various areas that we will define throughout this application.
