Objectives

The Peace Education Institute (RKI) sees youth work as an important way to support young people in becoming active and responsible citizens who respect others and build peace in their everyday lives. A core part of our mission is to strengthen the role of peace education in young people's leisure time by developing practical and impactful approaches together with youth work professionals to build a more just, inclusive and peaceful society. Our work is built around four interconnected themes: peace, antiracism, equality and equity, and global responsibility. These priorities are closely aligned with the objectives of the Erasmus+ Programme. We believe that high-quality youth work requires international cooperation based on mutual learning, the exchange of experiences and the co-creation of new approaches. In the current European security and societal context, we want to expand the capacity of youth workers to address difficult and polarising issues in constructive ways. During this project period, we focused particularly on dialogue-based methods, trauma-sensitive youth work, countering hate speech, creating safer spaces and promoting equal participation. At the same time, we broadened cooperation with new European partners as well as Palestinian, Armenian and Tunisian peace activists and youth workers. Erasmus+ accreditation enabled us to build long-term international partnerships, strengthen professional competences and disseminate the knowledge and methods developed through the mobility activities to the wider youth sector in Finland and across Europe. Our objective was not only to improve the quality of youth work through international learning, but also to ensure that the results of the mobility activities benefit a much broader audience than the direct participants themselves.
