Objectives

This international mobility project offers BTS students the opportunity to complete a 16-week internship abroad, representing an essential stage in their professional training pathway. This experience enables them to put into practice all the skills acquired during the academic year, both in foreign language learning and in the technical and professional subjects related to their field of study. In the hospitality and catering sector, where communication skills, adaptability and international openness play a central role, this professional immersion constitutes a particularly valuable training opportunity. Undertaking an internship abroad places students in real working situations that require them to use a foreign language on a daily basis within a demanding professional environment, significantly strengthening their linguistic competences. Beyond the acquisition of technical skills, this mobility experience also represents a highly enriching personal journey. By evolving in a different cultural, social and professional environment, students develop their adaptability, gain self-confidence and become exposed to different professional practices as well as new cultures. This international exposure contributes greatly to their personal development and helps them achieve greater maturity. The 16-week duration of the internship is one of the major strengths of the project. It allows students to overcome the initial difficulties linked to adaptation, particularly when language proficiency may still be limited at the beginning of the placement. Over time, they become more autonomous, fully integrate into professional teams and develop essential transferable skills that will support their future professional integration. Finally, this experience considerably strengthens students’ employability, both on the French labour market and at the European level. In a sector that is strongly internationally oriented, completing a long-term professional experience abroad represents a significant added value, enhancing their academic background and facilitating their future career development. The mobility project does not only benefit students; it also serves as an important professional development opportunity for higher education teachers through job shadowing periods within European partner institutions or organisations. These observation-based mobilities allow teachers to discover different pedagogical approaches, exchange on teaching methodologies, student support practices and assessment methods within an international context. This immersion encourages the sharing of good practices and the enrichment of teaching approaches, particularly in highly professional sectors such as hospitality and catering, where changing market expectations and international openness require continuous adaptation of training programmes. Job shadowing therefore contributes to strengthening the quality of teaching delivered within the institution by integrating new perspectives and pedagogical innovations observed among European partners. Furthermore, these experiences actively contribute to strengthening international cooperation between higher education institutions, consolidating existing partnerships while creating opportunities for new collaborations, both in terms of student mobility and joint educational projects. They fully support the internationalisation strategy of higher education institutions and generate positive outcomes for the entire educational community.
