Objectives

The Erasmus Higher Education mobility project of the CREPS Auvergne Rhône-Alpes is part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening the pedagogical quality of training in outdoor sports, enhancing the European openness of the outdoor sector, and structuring an international network around outdoor sports, inclusion, and ecological transition. In line with our Charter and with the activities carried out in previous years, this project fully continues the direction validated by the institution in 2021: upskilling staff, opening the institution to international cooperation, building networks, and developing pedagogical engineering to deliver training content adapted to current challenges. This project forms part of the European Outdoor Sports Campus, an alliance created on the initiative of the CREPS to address the structural inconsistencies that characterise higher education in outdoor education across Europe. Although cooperation between institutions exists, study programmes remain defined at national level, definitions of skills are inconsistent, and recognition mechanisms are not fully interoperable between higher education and vocational education and training systems. This limits transparency, transferability and long-term academic integration within the European Higher Education Area. Job shadowing, exchanges of best practices, sharing expertise and on-site observation of trainers and teachers enable work towards pedagogical alignment and a better understanding and recognition of outdoor education approaches in Europe. The mobilities implemented pursued the following objectives: 1- Support the teaching team in sharing and transmitting expertise in specific outdoor environments and develop cross-border pedagogical engineering. This includes work on prerogatives, supervision, rope techniques, safety, and broader themes such as inclusion or violence in sport, as well as European harmonisation issues aimed at improving the recognition of qualifications in professions related to outdoor sports (Spain and Italy). 2- Strengthen the skills of our learners, staff and trainees This was achieved notably through a BIP (Norway) focused on outdoor pedagogy with an ecological transition dimension. The objective was to develop technical, linguistic, pedagogical, and intercultural skills directly linked to outdoor professions and to enhance their employability. 3- Build a stable European network dedicated to the continuous improvement of pedagogical approaches in outdoor sports training Within the European Outdoor Sports Campus initiated by the CREPS and bringing together around twenty universities and training centres, these mobilities (Finland, Denmark, Lithuania, Sweden) aimed to: conduct on-site observations, exchange practices, co-construct pedagogical modules on discipline-specific topics, and address transversal themes essential to all sport-related training, such as inclusion, youth, ecological transition, ethics and professional conduct, gender issues, and the prevention of gender-based and sexual violence. Thos projects enabled also to work closer with universities’ Research department on ecological transition and inclusion. The teaching team is working on the continuous adaptation of our training content to offer pedagogical pathways with high added value. 4- Modernise the institution and strengthen its attractiveness Following Canada in 2023, the institution continued its international outreach towards Asia to reinforce international cooperation and professional skills at the intersection of higher education, outdoor sports, ecological transition, and sustainable destinations. This was achieved through structured exchanges with Chinese academic, institutional, and sectoral partners. Such initiatives aim to develop a comparative understanding of governance models for outdoor sports destinations and outdoor tourism in Europe and China.
