The project aimed to enable deafblind adults in Catalonia to learn and apply the principles of Pro Tactile communication and begin developing a Pro Tactile Catalan language. It also sought to strengthen the capacity of deafblind trainers to deliver introductory Pro Tactile training to local communities unfamiliar with this approach. A further objective was to reinforce the organisational capacity of partner organisations to implement Erasmus+ projects at local and transnational levels, while raising awareness of Pro Tactile, deafblind professionalism and deafblind-led practices among allies, professionals and public stakeholders.
The project was developed in response to the lack of accessible, deafblind-led communication approaches available to deafblind adults in Catalonia and more broadly in Europe. While many deafblind people rely on adapted visual sign languages or mediated communication, these approaches often limit autonomy, access to information and social participation. The partners identified a clear need to introduce Pro Tactile, a language and philosophy created by deafblind people, and to adapt it to the Catalan context. At the same time, there was a need to strengthen cooperation between organisations experienced in Pro Tactile, non-formal education and local deafblind community work, and to build capacity for Erasmus+ project implementation focused on deafblind inclusion.
