Objectives

The aim of this project was to provide our students with a unique opportunity to acquire practical skills related to ecological management and environmental stewardship, while also fostering active student engagement. Furthermore, the mobilities, whether virtual or physical, were designed to give our students—often coming from disadvantaged backgrounds—a genuine exposure to Europe and the wider world. They were intended to allow them to build connections with other young European citizens, relationships that the teaching team has observed to be long-lasting, not to mention the linguistic skills gained through the necessity of communicating in English.

Background

In a context where the climate emergency is a reality, it is essential to educate young people in sustainable practices. In Martinique, the challenges of biodiversity preservation and natural resource management are at the heart of local concerns. With this in mind, within our school, some students had already received an initial introduction to permaculture. However, it was necessary to deepen their knowledge so that they could become active participants in this field and pass on their skills. Thus, the project targeted a voluntary group of ten students, offering them an in-depth and personalized learning experience in the principles of permaculture.
