Objectives

The main objective of the project was to develop students' environmental awareness through the "3Rs" (reduce, reuse, recycle), by leading them to analyze their practices and implement concrete actions in their establishments. Each country was responsible for an axis (reduction for Portugal, recycling for Spain, reuse for Guyana), making it possible to anchor the objectives in local realities. The project also aimed to strengthen transversal skills: language skills, through the use of English and openness to Spanish and Portuguese; digital skills, through the use of collaborative tools and content production (eco-newspaper, videos); intercultural and civic skills, via European cooperation and debate activities. Finally, the project aimed to develop the feeling of belonging to European citizenship, by showing that environmental issues are common and require collective responses.

Background

The project “3R Around the World” was carried out by Lycée professionnel Jean-Marie Michotte (French Guiana), Agrupamento de Escolas de Maximinos (Portugal) and IES Sant Agustí (Spain) in order to address common needs related to environmental awareness and inclusion. In these three contexts, students face specific challenges (deforestation, tourism pressure, waste management, water resources), without always having the necessary tools to act responsibly or connect their local reality to global issues. A significant proportion of the target group comes from disadvantaged backgrounds, with academic and linguistic difficulties. The project therefore aimed to provide these students with access to European mobility opportunities, strengthen their skills and self-confidence, and foster international openness. The partner schools were already engaged in sustainable development initiatives but needed to better structure and enhance these actions within a European framework. The project thus addressed a dual objective: giving coherence to existing initiatives and using them as a lever for civic engagement and the development of European citizenship.
