Objectives

The project aimed to achieve a number of interdependent objectives in response to the civic, professional and digital issues facing young people and the people who work with them. The project aimed to equip young people and youth workers to act as agents of change, while reinforcing responsible practices and civic values in the service of an inclusive and sustainable society. ACTIVITY 1 The youth exchange ‘Youth engagement for social justice and inclusive citizenship in Europe’ took place from 2 to 8 December 2024 in Argos, Greece (5 days of activities and 2 days of travel). It included the participation of 24 young people from France, Italy, Portugal and Greece. The objectives were to promote intercultural exchanges between young Europeans, raise awareness of civic participation and societal issues, encourage commitment to positive local and global change, and also to strengthen the partnership (initiated in 2022) between LENA, Learning Seeds (Greece), Lunaria (Italy) and Associação Juventude de Vila Fonche (Portugal), thereby improving professional practices in the youth field. The exchange was based on participative workshops, non-formal activities, cultural visits and intercultural exchanges, aimed at involving young people in initiatives promoting social justice. Its aim was to encourage young people to express their views as citizens and take an active part in democratic life. Through the themes of social justice and inclusion, the aim was to enable young people (from Portugal, Greece, France and Italy) to make their voices and ideas heard, but also to raise their awareness of societal issues so that they could work and participate in building a more caring, humane and just society. The aim was also to offer them a space for intercultural encounters and exchanges, so that they could not only meet each other, but also get involved in a practical way in a social project. By engaging in dialogue, sharing their ideas and creating content, the young people were able not only to take ownership of a societal issue but also to contribute to proposals for societal change, while strengthening cohesion and living together. ACTIVITY 2 The youth worker mobility programme ‘to promote understanding and use of digital tools by young people for civic, ethical and responsible purposes’ took place from 17 to 21 February 2025 in Brussels, Belgium (5 days of activities and 2 days of travel). It brought together 22 participants from French and Belgian organisations. From the start of the project in early 2024, a working group from a regional project, ‘Robotics and Popular Education’, made up of youth leaders working on digital issues, met to work on expectations, objectives, programme content and logistics, as well as the choice of partner. This mobility was therefore the subject of an initial partnership with La Scientothèque, a Brussels-based organisation that the Ligue de l'enseignement had previously identified as being active in the field of digital technology, science and European projects. The general objectives of the project were as follows: to promote mutual understanding and familiarity with the tools, projects and resources designed by the representatives of the organisations present; to discover inspiring places, resources, practices and people from digital mediation centres and/or European institutions in Brussels; to co-construct solutions based on the needs and issues identified by the organisations in relation to the theme of mobility. The youth leaders involved are all confronted with changing and evolving digital practices among young people, which they need to understand in order to support them in their activities. They sometimes lack resources and seek to share their experiences with other professionals and find new resources. Another underlying objective was to forge a strong partnership with La Scientothèque in order to ensure its sustainability for future projects.
