Objectives

The aim of the Unibio and YES (Youth Engagement for Society) youth exchanges was to raise awareness among young people about biodiversity loss and gender equality issues for the first project, and to stimulate engagement, eco-citizenship, and active participation among young people in European society by promoting European values such as inclusion, gender equality, and solidarity for the second project. We hope to enable young people to be more aware of diversity and different societal realities across Europe and thus create a network of young people who wish to remain engaged and create projects together even after the youth exchange, contributing to a more connected and engaged European civil society. The Unibio youth exchange was first created in 2021 by a group of young people active in the Vir'volt association and the team, based on the fact that in rural areas, homosexuality and diverse gender identities still face discrimination and gender equality often seems to be a distant concept, far removed from people's everyday reality. Unfortunately, over the past three years, these realities have not changed substantially, which is why this youth exchange has been renewed for a new edition. The specific objective of this youth exchange was to provide a safe space to share experiences, learn about different gender equality and the protection of sexual and gender diversity in different European countries, developing educational strategies to protect these minorities, and creating a space for exchange and cooperation without judgment or discrimination. To make these topics more accessible to everyone, the link between cooperation systems in nature (biodiversity) and cooperation systems among humans was highlighted. The different ways in which nature cooperates between different living species and how this diversity is even necessary for ecosystems to thrive and survive served as a source of inspiration for methods of cooperation and reflection on human behavior, but also to raise awareness of the fragility of natural ecosystems and the need to continue to protect them in all our countries. The fact that this youth exchange is repeated every year, with the same theme but with different methods and participating countries, aims to identify this project and the association as a place where people facing discrimination know they can find a project suited to their needs and profile. This objective has been achieved, since after three editions, Vir'volt continues to welcome young people from the Paris region who face discrimination based on their gender or sexual identity, who continue to participate in the UNiBio youth exchange and share their experiences with other young Europeans. The YES - Youth Engagement for Society youth exchange was born out of the observation that young people in rural areas often feel excluded from the political and civic life of their country, that they lack opportunities to influence change in their society, and that they often feel disconnected from the European Union, its projects, and its opportunities. The aim of this youth exchange was to examine the different forms of civic participation, the levers and obstacles to youth participation in rural areas in order to encourage these young people to participate in European civil society, create initiatives, and become actors in their future society. We wanted to strengthen their sense of belonging to a European society, stimulate their motivation to identify opportunities and become active in local civil society organizations (clubs, associations, collectives, youth parliaments) to create their own activities. We also wanted to establish a dialogue between the participants and the local population in order to enrich the participants' questioning, inform the local population (often elderly) about the motivations and dreams of young people for tomorrow's society, and have a direct impact at the local level in La Ferté-Alais during the youth exchange. In order to make the project more accessible and provide concrete examples of civic participation, the project also focused on eco-citizenship, encouraging participants to question our lifestyles and consumption patterns and raising their awareness of the impact on the environment, biodiversity, and public health across Europe. The seminar aims to: promote career guidance for young Ukrainian, Georgian, and French workers - Improve intercultural teaching practices - Promote European projects in the Paris region
