The Île d'Oléron community of communes has noted that its youth are hampered in terms of access to studies, employment-training-care, leisure, culture, and openness to the outside world. These obstacles to mobility are accentuated by an inappropriate transport offer. Its insular nature increases the difficulties for young people to live sustainably in the region. ts insular nature increases the difficulties for young people to live sustainably in the region. These observations are similar for the community of Majorca, a Spanish island, and also for Beja, a municipality in southern Portugal located in a rural area. These shared experiences led the partners to collaborate on joint youth exchange programs. The assessments conducted by the Communauté de communes de l’Île d’Oléron have reinforced the local elected officials' commitment to promoting youth involvement in their community and to working towards the following three objectives within the framework of the Erasmus+ program: - Objective 1: Combating School Dropout School dropout is a complex phenomenon with multiple causes, including academic, familial, and personal factors. The ERASMUS+ Observatory has demonstrated the impact of participating in a project on mitigating the risk. Through non-formal education and the development or strengthening of skills, individuals will increase their self-confidence, their ability to take initiative, their capacity to understand difficulties, and thus reduce their dependence on others. By fostering their openness to the world, young people will develop their adaptability, establish new points of reference for comparison with their own situation, and be better equipped to cope with complex situations. The youth leaders tasked with supporting young people in preparing for departure will also aim to recognize the skills and knowledge gained during mobility experiences and give the project greater educational value. - Objective 2: To promote the conditions for development and success According to Glassmann (sociologist), educational success is what a child or adolescent achieves at the end of a given period, during which they have been subjected to educational action, and which is characterized by physical and mental well-being, energy available to learn and to undertake, an ability to use language appropriately and to enter into relationships, an acquired awareness of what school can offer them and what they can expect from it, and an open mind towards their surroundings and the world. - Objective 3: Supporting Youth Initiatives The observation of a lack of youth engagement should obviously be put into perspective; it is not very different from previous generations. The absence of volunteers within the non-profit sector, or the renewal of their membership, likely depends on the opportunities afforded to newcomers, whether young or old. It is important to examine the role of young people in the various decision-making bodies within the community and to work towards taking into account and valuing their expectations, ideas, and opinions. The current project includes two youth exchanges and a mobility program for youth workers, which had to be cancelled. OBJECTIVES of youth exchanges: enable meetings and cultural openness / raise public awareness of environmental impact / develop critical thinking among young people 1 theme for the exchange with MAJORCA: life without waste 1 theme for the exchange with BEIJA : A nature is precious, let's protect it
