We had several reasons for carrying out this project. On the one hand, we saw how powerful a tool youth exchanges are for young people. How important we can influence them with the help of a role model, the relationship that is created during these exchanges and the time we spend together. This social capital gives us the power to make changes also later after the exchange, and if we add to this all the other positive outcomes for young people, informal knowledge and prevention of discrimination, awareness of ourselves, different cultures, the importance of sports activities for better well-being, socializing and making new acquaintances and social ties, the youth exchange is our very powerful tool in working with young people. We have noticed for a long time that young people become more and more uninterested, unmotivated and passive in topics that are very important for their future and also personally. The Covid epidemic and the increasing dependence on electronic media, alienation, physical inactivity, bad eating habits and the resulting drastic reduction in self-esteem of individuals, mental problems, eating disorders, deterioration of manual and other skills, social contacts and last but not least, lostness and aimlessness contributed a lot to this. That's the reason we want to gave our young people this experience to get to know other cultures, customs and meet young people from all over the world who have the same problems as them, have fears, worries and also want to be loved and accepted. That they too are made of flesh and blood and can be hurt and wounded. This are problems that we adressed exchange. We also adressed other topics as: Sea pollution because of global warning with seaweeds called ‘sargasses’ on beaches. We also recognise problem of using forbiden the pesticide ‘chlordecone’ (kepone) in land, sanitary scandal (societal consequences) in farming and lack of self efficiancy with vegetables and fruit food autonomy and alternative agriculture. This project has been very useful for all project participants, for project partners, as well as our local environments from which our partners come. The "Smiles for better future" project brought together 3 organizations and 35 participants who were interested in the mentioned. The young people with whom we did youth exchange came from unstimulating and even harmful environments, most of them have problems in the emotional and behavioral sense, some of them have experienced many traumatic experiences violence, alcoholism... Our project had achived also following objectives: 1.) A sustainable and environmentally friendly lifestyle with as little waste as possible, a clean environment and water with learning about biological and self-sufficient production of vegetables and food, learning about the skills and knowledge necessary for this (agriculture, fishing). 2.) The importance of activities in nature on well-being, social relations and the strengthening of the personality traits of individuals, the possession of emotions, the strengthening of the importance of communication, tolerance and acceptance of differences and prevention of addictions. 3.) Prevention of discrimination. 4.) Gaining social capital for working with young people in the future. 5.) Prevention and resolution of conflicts between young people. 6.) Raising awareness in the local community about the importance of a clean environment and the lack of pesticide use for human health.
