Objectives

For several years we have been organizing and participating in youth exchanges. And, with our partners, we found in 2011 that we now choose to align our projects with the priorities of the European Union and even more so with the annual priorities of the programme. We proposed to our young people to find a theme and a support to organize these exchanges according to these priorities. This forces our young people to think about possible exchanges with these criteria and not to be satisfied with topics that are more familiar to them. We continue to work in this way on many of our projects. Following an extremely difficult project in terms of involvement, reflection and youth work in the summer of 2011, the French, German and Bulgarian participants asked us, in the end meeting report, if it was not also possible to organize exchanges more fun and oriented on their personal enrichment. We took this into consideration and asked them to give us examples of projects they would like to see. Having discovered the functioning of our structure and the actions we put in place (some of these young Bulgarians and Germans, not coming to us for the first time), they asked us if it was possible to transform a stay that we usually offer to our young locals into a European meeting. This approach was very appreciated by the various partners and we were aware of the feasibility of this project and we implemented it between French, German and Czech in the summer of 2012. This exchange was a real success on many levels: One of the main positive points was the solidarity, respect, mutual support, and communication that the young people displayed with each other and the team. Indeed, on a boat, the space is so limited that all these concepts are even more "tested" than during a traditional stay, where young people can easily isolate themselves to calm down, take a step back, reflect, or otherwise. Indeed, such a stay is a unique experience: - Solidarity and cohesion among young people is essential on a sailboat, due to the proximity in such a confined space, and the collective maneuvers require communication, understanding, and organization. - Everyone must have respect and tolerance for each other's habits aboard a boat. The organization on board means that people "walk all over each other," and isolation is very difficult. Understanding each other is more important than ever. Schedules, menus, travel, and the operation of various everyday appliances (stove, toilets, sinks, etc.) are not the same as at home. Training for everyone will be all the more important. - Sailing is also a sport; some maneuvers are very physical and require a lot of organization. This activity, which is very environmentally friendly, is very good for your health. We will also use the time we're sailing when we're not maneuvering to discuss the topic of pollution at sea and the importance of good health and good posture during maneuvers. On a sailboat, good posture during physical exertion is all the more important in terms of both health and safety. - Food on board a sailboat must be planned in advance. Most of the shopping must be done before our departure, and only a few restockings can be made during our stops on the islands of Capraia and Elba. Therefore, before our departure, we thought about complete and balanced menus for a week of sailing, taking into account everyone's habits, the difficulties of preserving food on board the boats, and the limited space for storage and cooking.
