The objectives of the project "International Festival of Children's Rights and Citizenship" were to reaffirm and bring to life the collective rights of children and adolescents today in Europe and around the world. We conceived this project as a highlight of the year marking the 35th anniversary of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child. The main activity of the project was the gathering of children and adolescents around a festive event with an educational character. Prior to the festival, inter-knowledge and cooperation activities were proposed to promote intercultural group dynamics. This project was also an opportunity to showcase initiatives carried out by children and adolescents. They were able to exercise their right to participation. All the educational objectives set were achieved: Allow young Europeans to get to know each other: The 600 young participants from all over France, as well as from Germany, Greece, and Spain, got to know each other during the four days of the festival. Enable young Europeans to form intercultural groups: The various European delegations were divided into sub-groups to encourage team cohesion and form intercultural groups throughout the stay. Friendships formed between some participants from the very first days, and through the activities offered, the young people got to know and appreciate each other. Overall, everyone showed respect and collaborated well in teams. Encourage intercultural encounters and dialogue among participants, with specific attention to the languages represented. Some participants connected right from the first meeting through initial icebreaker games. Others, more reserved, needed a bit more time and encouragement to reach out to peers from other countries and try to communicate. The sub-group that was supported by a language facilitator developed greater language skills during the exchange. Nevertheless, all participants learned words and phrases in the three main languages, which encouraged communication during both organized activities and informal moments. Promote expression, participation, and the personal development of young people: All the young participants took part in the “Project Forum” during the International Festival of Children's Rights and Citizenship, held at the cultural center #104Paris, where they presented their projects to other festival-goers. They engaged in various activities and collaborated in mixed teams. Foster inclusion for all: All young people were able to actively participate in the stay (including 17 young people with fewer opportunities). One young person from the German group, who has health issues, couldn't travel with their group on Saturday but was able to arrive in Paris on Monday and join the exchange. All the young participants welcomed him warmly, and he took part in the activities like everyone else. Unfortunately, his health deteriorated on Thursday, and he had to remain at the hostel with a chaperone. This exchange also allowed for engagement with a group of young people hosted in France with their families as asylum seekers. Three Russian-speaking sisters, who had arrived in France a year ago, stood out during the festival due to their exceptional integration into the group. At the end of the stay, some young people from Reims expressed interest in learning Russian. The young participants from Puente Genil, Spain, which is a rural and underserved area, were also able to enjoy this enriching experience.
