The SoLeader 2024 project, as an initiative following SoLeader 2022 in Munich, aims to bring together 60 young French and German individuals aged 17 to 23 for a camp experience in Paris, during the Paralympic Games from August 24th to 31st. Our main goal is to empower young people by showing them that they are capable of taking meaningful actions that address their own concerns and align with their values. We seek to provide them with the necessary tools to design and implement relevant initiatives, with a particular emphasis on inclusion, whether related to gender, economic capital, disability, or other aspects of diversity. An essential aspect of our approach is to allow young people to meet and exchange, recognizing and celebrating their diversity while highlighting common challenges they face as young Europeans. This approach aligns with the principles of youth work in that it takes into account the age of the participants and gives them real influence over the design and implementation of the program. Sport in particular is used as a lever to spread these themes. We aspire to accompany them on their journey towards European citizenship by providing them with an educational and experiential environment where they can develop their skills, sense of responsibility, and ability to contribute positively to society. We adhere to the values of popular education and non-formal education, recognizing that learning can take place interactively, inclusively, and participatively. The method used for this stay, which has already proven successful in 2022 and in previous SoLeader stays, aims to involve the young person in every aspect of the stay. They are consulted before and after activities and highlights so that the educational and supervisory teams can adapt the stay based on everyone's feelings and needs. By offering young people opportunities for practical and participatory learning, we aim to promote their engagement and personal development while enhancing their understanding of social and civic issues. Furthermore, we encourage participants to realize their capabilities and seek to build their self-confidence, which may inspire them to become community actors in their area if they wish. Thus, it appears crucial to offer young people, especially those who are less equipped, an experience that accompanies them in taking control of their future and asserting their voice on the issues that matter to them. To meet these needs, the project pursues the following objectives: - Encourage young people to develop their skills and abilities through a non-formal learning experience: gaining self-confidence, acquiring useful non-formal skills in their professional and associative lives, helping them to think for themselves about topics that interest and concern them. - Raise awareness among young people about important societal issues and encourage them to be active citizens: reflection on coexistence, inclusion, discrimination, the use of new information and communication techniques, and the construction of a project serving society, encouragement to participate in decisions that concern them, and to understand associative responsibilities. - Promote intercultural dialogue and strengthen the sense of belonging to Europe: with sport and culture as mediums (Olympic values such as friendship and respect, cultural openness), involve them to increase European values and a culture of openness. Overall, we can say that SoLeader aims to leave a mark on young participants in their perception of their participatory engagement. During the assessment of the 2022 stay, one young person testified: "After SoLeader in 2022, I had a real breakthrough in my commitment. I was just involved in coaching and refereeing, but upon my return, I got involved in the technical committee and the departmental committee. Now, I am the president of my club." This demonstrates the importance of this stay and the ambitions it holds. In summary, SoLeader is part of a comprehensive approach aimed at providing young people with the necessary tools to flourish in their personal lives and approach their professional lives in a more peaceful manner, while actively contributing to the construction of a more inclusive and solidarity-based society.
