Climate change, migrations, queer rights, human and non-human rights and democratic processes are burning issues, which are deeply affecting European young people. An increasing number of them are engaging in climate and social activism to raise awareness on these important topics and pressure the politicians, companies and organisations to take action. CliMates and the partners from this project have been working for years with such young activists and youth workers to empower them and support their communities overcoming challenges, such as burnout, financial precarity, stress, mental health issues and traumas. This project is in alignment with our existing work to support those communities with powerful tools to foster a culture of conflict resolution, mental health support and emotional intelligence amongst young activists and youth workers with fewer opportunities. Our work is directly aimed at minorities, queer communities and activists with few financial capacities. Our objectives are the following: * Increasing emotional awareness: We want to develop emotional awareness and capacities among youth workers. By equipping them with tools to better understand and manage their emotions, as well as those of others, we aim to foster an environment where empathy leads to more effective and compassionate activism. Techniques from Radical Honesty will be employed to encourage transparent communication, helping to build trust and deepen connections within and between young activist groups. * Empowering youth workers with methods for conflict transformation: Recognizing the inevitability of conflict within any movement, our project prioritizes the development of conflict resolution skills. With the Theater of the Oppressed and Radical Honesty, participants will explore scenarios of oppression in embodied ways and learn how to navigate inter-personal conflict in healthier ways. This methodology not only prepares youth workers to manage disagreements within their communities but also to approach societal conflicts with innovative solutions. * Increasing resilience and mental health: In response to the growing awareness of mental health challenges among activists, our project includes a strong component focused on mental and physical well-being. Through Radical Honesty, Playfight and our embodiment techniques, we will provide youth workers with strategies to manage stress, prevent burnout, and cultivate resilience. This objective is vital for sustaining long-term engagement in activism without compromising personal well-being. * Promote inclusive and safer youth work and activism cultures: We are committed to creating inclusive spaces that welcome diversity and foster a sense of safety and belonging. Our project is designed to challenge existing norms and practices within activist communities, making them more accessible to individuals with fewer opportunities, and promoting an activism culture that values and protects every participant. From the perspective of youth work practice, our project represents a powerful approach to empowering youth workers and their communities. By achieving these objectives, we anticipate a ripple effect that will not only transform youth work but also contribute to a more just, empathetic, and resilient society. Through this initiative, we envision youth workers and young activists as catalysts for change, equipped with the skills and understanding necessary to navigate the challenges of the 21st century and inspire a new generation of activists committed to positive social transformation.
