The HERE AND ELSEWHERE project, implemented between June 2024 and August 2025 at several sites in the Dordogne, has fully achieved its initial objectives. The project aims to strengthen the civic participation of young people in rural areas through collective, intercultural and environmental engagement activities carried out throughout the year. The main objectives are: - To stimulate active citizenship and initiative among young people in rural areas. - To encourage intercultural encounters and cooperation between young people from different backgrounds. - To raise awareness of environmental issues and the local ecological transition. - To strengthen the links between young people and their local areas by promoting local cultural and heritage resources. - To inform and prepare young people for European mobility (CES, Erasmus+, international projects). Designed to strengthen civic participation and engagement among young people in rural areas, it has successfully combined non-formal education, learning by doing and intercultural cooperation within a supportive and participatory framework. Thanks to the strong involvement of the young participants, supervisory teams and local partners, the project has become a real laboratory for engagement and autonomy, enabling young people to become actors in their region and their European future. All 22 days of planned activities were carried out, with a few adjustments to the schedule due to weather conditions or site availability. These adjustments enriched the dynamic by promoting group autonomy and better consideration of the young people's wishes. Minor changes (e.g. postponing certain gardening or construction activities) were discussed collectively and incorporated into the overall schedule, in keeping with the spirit of the project. This flexibility illustrates excellent participatory management and intelligent adaptation to real needs.
