We wanted to raise awareness among young people who are often distanced from European issues about European citizenship, to strengthen their knowledge of the EU’s institutions, values and rights, and to encourage their civic engagement. The objective was also to help them discover mobility and intercultural opportunities in order to foster their social inclusion and active participation in European life. The project was designed for young people who are often invisible in the public debate and who rarely take part in programs related to Europe. Many of them are not in education, employment or training, or face social and economic challenges that distance them from institutions and civic spaces. By providing accessible and interactive formats, we aimed to demystify the EU and help these young people develop a sense of belonging to a broader democratic and intercultural community. We also wanted to counter the feeling of disconnection or mistrust that some of these young people may feel toward the EU, by showing them that Europe is not just about high-level politics but also about concrete rights, values and possibilities that concern their daily lives. Through the organization of debates, participatory workshops, quizzes, games and artistic and creative sessions, the project offered them a chance to discover and express their relationship with Europe in their own words and through their own experiences. In addition to awareness and understanding, one key objective was to promote agency and co-construction: participants were not only receivers of information but active contributors to the project. By formulating collective recommendations addressed to decision-makers, they were encouraged to reflect critically on their role as young citizens and on how the EU can better respond to their needs and expectations. The project also sought to strengthen social ties between the participants and the wider community, by facilitating dialogue between youth and elected officials, as well as between people from different backgrounds and life paths. These exchanges helped break down stereotypes and fostered mutual understanding. Finally, this project aimed to promote a positive and dynamic image of European citizenship, far from clichés and technocratic discourses. By highlighting the plurality of perspectives, the richness of cultural diversity and the common values that unite European peoples, the project contributed to building a more inclusive and participatory vision of Europe. In summary, our objectives were: To raise awareness and understanding of the EU among youth who are usually distanced from it To create spaces for expression and dialogue where they could formulate and share their views on Europe To encourage civic engagement and political literacy To promote values of democracy, equality, human rights and rule of law To foster inclusion through accessible educational tools and intercultural encounters To support youth empowerment by giving them tools to better understand and act on European issues Through this project, we hoped to sow the seeds of a more inclusive and participatory Europe, rooted in the experiences and aspirations of a generation whose voice must be heard more clearly.
