Objectives

The project "FUTURE SKILLS 4.0: Innovate, Sustain, Engage, Lead", implemented under the Erasmus+ accreditation for 2024, was designed as a strategic response to the identified needs of young people and youth workers across four interrelated thematic areas: sustainable development and environmental protection, digital competences and the innovative application of technology, active citizenship, and capacity development for entrepreneurial initiatives in sustainable sectors. The starting point of the project was the recognition that the young people we work with, and our partner organisations, face multiple challenges in their environments — accelerating digital transformation, the ecological crisis, declining trust in democratic processes, and a lack of practical competences for active participation in society. We specifically identified the need for systematic capacity building among youth workers, who lack access to up-to-date education and tools suited to the digital and ecological context. These needs were confirmed through years of the organisation's work with young people in the local community, through feedback from partner organisations, and through an analysis of current Erasmus+ programme priorities and European youth policies. The main objective of the project was to empower participants (both young people and youth workers) with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for responsible and active engagement in contemporary society, through the application of non-formal education, experiential, and participatory learning methods. All four activities were conceived to complement one another and systematically contribute to the overarching goal, while simultaneously upholding the principles of inclusion and equal opportunities for all participants. Through the activities designed for young people — the Green Guardians exchange and the ACTivate for the Earth exchange we sought to foster environmental awareness, critical thinking, and a sense of personal responsibility towards the community and the natural environment. We aimed to create conditions in which young people actively explore their own role in environmental protection and democratic processes, and develop initiative through concrete, practical tasks and creative working methods. Through experiential learning, volunteer actions, theatre methods, and intercultural exchange, participants acquired competences they apply directly in their local communities. We paid particular attention to the inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities: those from rural areas, facing economic barriers, or experiencing behavioural difficulties, for whom international mobility and non-formal education open doors that would otherwise remain closed, directly contributing to the reduction of inequalities. Through the activities designed for youth workers: the AI in Youth Work training and the PBA: Unlocking Youth Potential activity the goal was to improve the quality of youth work by adopting new tools and methods, particularly in the context of applying artificial intelligence in non-formal education, and by developing international partnerships and project management capacities. We wanted to provide participants with concrete, practical knowledge applicable in their everyday work with young people, with an emphasis on the ethical, inclusive, and responsible use of contemporary technology, as well as the ability to design and deliver high-quality, innovative activities for young people in digital and international contexts. The project as a whole was oriented towards promoting European values: solidarity, tolerance, intercultural understanding, and democratic participation through the international exchange of experiences and cooperation among organisations from eleven European countries. Our long-term goal was to build a network of organisations committed to innovative, inclusive, and sustainable youth work that will continue to develop joint initiatives beyond the project's conclusion, as well as to strengthen the organisational capacities of the association for implementing increasingly complex and thematically diverse activities within the Erasmus+ programme, in line with the long-term vision of the accreditation.
