Objectives

We developed the “Citizen Journey” project with the aim of encouraging active civic engagement by improving young people's citizenship competencies, raising awareness of issues requiring action, and stimulating social contributions. To address the topic comprehensively, we set the following objectives to be achieved by the end of the project: Strengthening the competencies of active citizenship among the project participants and further enforcing proactive behaviors through learning activities – five workshops were implemented in each community during follow-up by participants. Enforcing young people’s civic and social attitudes through the creation and distribution of motivational materials – five videos and posters were promoted by participants among their circles during follow-up to reach 3,000 youngsters. Motivating participants’ involvement in community matters by identifying the areas they could address and performing volunteering actions in each country – five activities were realized during follow-up. The “Citizen Journey” project aligned with the objectives of the Erasmus+ program and the EU Youth Strategy 2019–2027, particularly outlined through the Engage pillar. Our goal was to improve the civic competencies of young people, enhance their interest and level of involvement, stimulate active citizenship and participation in decision-making structures and processes, engage them in society and community, promote inclusion and solidarity, thereby contributing to the strengthening of the EU identity.
