The main topic of the project “Young Voices – Healthy Choices – Zero Waste” was healthy eating, reducing food waste, and promoting sustainable food habits among young people. It focused on teaching participants about nutrition, meal planning, cooking skills, and the environmental impact of food waste while encouraging long-term behavior change. Additionally, the project aimed to raise awareness of the connection between diet and mental well-being and promote cultural exchange through traditional zero-waste recipes. This was the topic of the project because food waste is a significant global issue with environmental, social, and economic consequences. Every year, 88 million tons of food are wasted in the EU alone, worth around 143 billion euros, while millions of people worldwide struggle with hunger and malnutrition. When food is wasted, so are the resources used to produce and transport it, such as land, water, and fuel. Additionally, when food ends up in landfills, it contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, making food waste a major factor in climate change. At the same time, unhealthy eating habits are linked to physical and mental health issues, including obesity, anxiety, and depression. Experts emphasize that a balanced diet can improve overall well-being, yet many people lack the knowledge or skills to prepare healthy, waste-free meals. The project addressed these challenges by teaching young people how to plan meals, cook nutritious dishes, and reduce food waste, helping them make informed decisions that benefit both their health and the environment. It also promoted cultural exchange through traditional zero-waste recipes, encouraging sustainable habits that can have a lasting impact. The project objectives were: - to empower 36 young people from 6 countries, with knowledge about nutrition, meal planning, cooking and the impact of their choices on the environment so they can make informed decisions; - to educate young participants on the importance of a balanced and nutritious diet as a way towards healthy lifestyle and to encourage the adoption of healthy eating habits that contribute to overall well-being; - to increase awareness about the environmental and social impact of food waste in the world today through various activities and workshops; - to implement practical cooking classes and enhance participants skills in cooking healthy meals; - to film preparation of at least 6 healthy meals and produce mini-serial for youtube and social media; - to encourage creativity, creative writing and usage of artistic illustrations while working on producing the “Coloring Story Book” targeting young generation and encouraging habits from young age; - to collect different traditional healthy meals with zero waste from all countries involved in the project and publish a recipe book, - to foster and promote cultural exchange and diversity among young people from different countries. The project aimed to empower young people with practical skills and knowledge about healthy living, sustainability, and cultural exchange. Through the implementation of the project activities we have successfully inspired participants to take action, both in their personal lives and in their communities, and achieved our objectives as planned.
