Democracy and inclusive democratic participationAwareness about the European Union

Objectives

By implementing the Erasmus+ project, we aimed to empower young people for active participation in social and political life and to inform them about the opportunities offered by the European Union. The main goal was to encourage understanding of European values, decision-making mechanisms, and the role of youth in democratic processes. The project began on 1 September 2024 and was presented to students from two secondary schools in Šibenik-Knin County – Ivan Meštrović Secondary School Drniš and the Šibenik School of Economics. Through interactive workshops and activities, students (32 in total) learned about EU institutions, the EU Youth Dialogue and Youth Goals, as well as ways to transform ideas into concrete project proposals. Special emphasis was placed on understanding how local self-government works and on the concept of participatory budgeting. Students took part in designing the project logo, managing social media, and conducting educational workshops, thereby developing competencies for lifelong learning, critical thinking, and active citizenship. The project enabled cooperation between young people, decision-makers, and educational staff, encouraging the exchange of experiences and creating a foundation for future initiatives. The specific objectives set at the beginning and achieved through this project were: • to inform young people about the opportunities offered by the EU, • to encourage their active engagement in the community, • to develop dialogue between young people and decision-makers, • to strengthen youth participation in policy-making, especially in rural areas. The project ended on 30 September 2025. The coordinator was LAG “More 249”, and the partners were the City of Drniš, LAG “Krka”, the Šibenik School of Economics, and Ivan Meštrović Secondary School Drniš.
