With the project, we wanted to contribute to the empowerment of young people in the local community of the City of Skradin through active involvement in the process of developing the Youth Strategy. The main goal was to enable young people to recognize their own role in society and encourage them to participate in shaping policies that directly affect them. We considered it important to create a space in which the voice of young people would be heard and their real needs, experiences and ideas would be taken into account, so that the Strategy would be relevant, contemporary and aligned with the local context. By implementing project activities, we sought to increase the level of information among young people about the possibilities of participating in decision-making processes, with a special emphasis on the local level. Through informal meetings and dialogue with decision-makers, we enabled young people to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for active citizenship. In addition, we introduced them to the impact of European policies on local life, which further expanded their understanding of the importance of connecting the local and wider European contexts. Ultimately, we wanted to encourage long-term changes in the perception of young people as passive members of the community and encourage them to take an active role in making decisions that shape their future. By developing a Strategy that is created with their direct participation, we are laying the foundations for the systematic and continuous inclusion of young people in social processes, thereby contributing to the development of a democratic, inclusive and responsible local community in the long term.
