Objectives

By implementing the project, we aimed to strengthen the competences of youth workers in environmental sustainability by providing them with practical tools, methodologies, and non-formal education approaches to design and deliver engaging activities. At the same time, we aimed to increase young people’s motivation and active participation in addressing environmental challenges within their communities, fostering a sense of responsibility and active citizenship. Another key objective was to raise awareness and promote behavioural change among young people by encouraging eco-friendly lifestyles and reducing their environmental impact. Particular attention was given to the inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities, ensuring equal access, active participation, and empowerment. In addition, the project aimed to strengthen the capacity of partner organisations in youth engagement and environmental advocacy, through cooperation, exchange of practices, and joint implementation of activities. Overall, the project sought to contribute to more active, informed, and environmentally responsible young people, as well as more capable and resilient organisations in the youth sector.

Background

We applied for this project to address clearly identified needs among youth workers and young people related to environmental awareness, engagement, and inclusion. Our initial needs analysis showed that youth workers lacked practical skills, tools, and methodologies to effectively implement sustainability-related activities, while young people demonstrated low motivation and limited opportunities to actively participate in addressing ecological challenges. Also, many young people, including those with fewer opportunities, faced barriers to participation and felt excluded from community initiatives. The project responded to these needs by strengthening the competences of youth workers through targeted training and providing them with practical resources, such as the booklet of green methodologies. At the same time, it created engaging opportunities for young people to participate in environmental actions through local events, campaigns, and awareness-raising activities. The project also ensured inclusive participation by actively involving young people with fewer opportunities. The project addressed gaps in knowledge, engagement, and inclusion, contributing to more active, informed, and environmentally responsible youth.
