The primary goal of implementing this project was to provide comprehensive and practice-oriented support to youth workers, enabling them to respond more effectively to situations where young people are at risk. In today’s social environment, crisis situations affecting youth—such as domestic violence, various forms of abuse, and exploitation—are becoming increasingly common. These situations can lead not only to physical harm but also to severe psychological and social consequences. Therefore, it is essential that youth workers possess the right knowledge, methodological tools, and competencies to recognize problems in time and provide effective support. As part of the project, we organized an intensive six-day training program during which participants explored the topics of abuse and youth at risk from different perspectives. The purpose of the program was not merely to transfer theoretical knowledge but rather to provide real-life skills and hands-on experience through non-formal learning methods. Group work, situational exercises, and case study analyses allowed participants to experiment with new approaches in a safe learning environment and reflect on their professional roles. The main objectives of the project were as follows: 1. Recognizing signs of abuse among young people: During the training, participants learned how to detect behavioral and emotional signs that may indicate abuse, neglect, or other high-risk situations. This skill is crucial for youth workers to intervene preventively rather than only reacting when a crisis has already developed. 2. Developing active listening and empathetic communication: One of the project’s key aims was to equip youth workers with communication techniques that help young people feel safe and willing to openly share their problems. Active listening is essential for understanding the youth’s perspective and providing appropriate support. 3. Comprehensive competence development: The project focused on five key areas: • Supporting mental health • Strengthening social and emotional skills • Creating a safe environment • Enhancing self-reflection and well-being • Developing consultation and mentoring skills These areas together contribute to ensuring that youth workers apply a holistic approach to supporting young people. 4. Familiarity with national support systems and organizations: The project aimed to give participants an in-depth understanding of national and international support networks, organizations, and resources. Collaborating with these networks enables youth workers to provide more effective assistance to young people in need. 5. Creating a supportive and safe environment: Participants learned how to establish community and institutional settings that foster trust, reduce fear, and allow young people to talk openly about their difficulties in a secure environment. 6. Developing a practical guide to supporting abused youth: As part of the project, participants collaboratively created a hands-on handbook that outlines step-by-step how to recognize risky situations, intervene effectively, and access additional forms of support. This guide enhances the long-term impact of the project as it can also benefit professionals outside the training group. 7. Acquiring individual and group thinking methods: The program emphasized critical thinking, problem analysis, and collaborative solution-finding techniques. These skills are essential for youth workers to operate effectively in complex, multi-stakeholder situations. Overall, the project aimed to strengthen the professional preparedness of youth workers in the long term, improve the effectiveness of their responses to abuse, and promote the safety, mental health, and well-being of young people. The knowledge and tools developed during the training enable participants to act as multipliers within their communities, sharing the acquired expertise with other youth professionals. As a result, the project has not only a direct impact on the participants but also an indirect, sustainable positive effect on young people and the wider professional network.
