Objectives

The Three Treasures project aimed to support youth workers experiencing mild burnout with an innovative, holistic approach that nurtures the body, mind, and soul. It combined non-formal education, digital tools, and Eastern practices (Chi Kung, Bang Stick technique) to promote well-being and professional sustainability. The training took place at the “Three Treasures Valley,” a pioneering Hungarian youth and martial arts center known for its volunteer-driven structure, sustainable operation, and commitment to community leadership. The project placed special focus on supporting the mental health of Generation Z. The main objectives were: To enhance the personal and professional well-being of youth workers, particularly those at risk of burnout, thereby ensuring their long-term sustainability in the field. To elevate resilience and mental health as core principles in European youth work, especially in relation to Gen Z. To provide youth workers with innovative tools and methods for digital engagement, conscious communication, and addressing generational challenges. To develop a blended learning format, combining a 10-day residential training course with the HEARTLAND online resilience platform. To conduct research into Gen Z behaviors, mental health, and preferences, equipping youth workers with evidence-based insights for improved youth engagement. The project was a continuation of the 2022 “Flow with the Elements” training. The high level of interest (over 300 applicants, 70 participants in follow-up webinars) clearly demonstrated a demand for this kind of professional renewal and competence-building. In the 2024 edition, 33 youth workers took part in an intensive 10-day residential training at the Three Treasures Valley, benefiting from a unique environment rooted in holistic and community-based values. Participants developed: Increased personal resilience and awareness of work-life balance strategies Understanding of Gen Z trends and practical tools to work with them Familiarity with ETS-based self-assessment and learning cycles Experience in facilitating their own well-being workshops Access to an international network for sharing innovative methods and tools The program particularly emphasized social inclusion, supporting youth workers who serve marginalized communities or are themselves in vulnerable situations. The location offered a space not only for physical retreat, but also a live model of community-led, sustainable youth work. The balance between theory, physical self-awareness practices (Chi Kung), and creative-reflective methods (journaling, movement, coaching) allowed for a deep and embodied learning process. At the end of the course, participants co-created their own well-being workshops, which they will be able to use in their local youth work contexts. In conclusion, Three Treasures successfully achieved its goals: it strengthened the internal resilience of youth workers, expanded their practical skillset, and fostered international exchange and cooperation based on shared European values.
